[edit] Why a "stealth" template?

Template:Interwikiconflict is a "stealth" template. It does not insert visible characters in a page but can be detected with Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Interwikiconflict.
Many templates with the visible text "You can help ..." relate to issues which can be solved by everybody.
Conflicts in interlanguage links can have many reasons, often more then a dozen of languages using different alphabets are involved. At least in one of the languages two titles link from one language link directly or over a chain of links to the same title in another language. This is why such conflicts should be solved only with a minimum knowledge of the involved languages. It is not enough to link articles with identical titles / with transcripted variants of the same titles.
Often some of the involved pages link to a disambiguation page in a particular language and other "of the same set" to a particular meaning specified in this disambiguation. Somtimes it happens that in one of the languages the content of a disambiguation page is swapped with or redirected to the "primary title" but existing interlanguage links are not adjusted, people do not know about interlanguage links from other languages pointing to "their" articled. See examples below.

If there is no conflict in interlanguage links bots can easily add interlanguage links and correct / readjust redirects, delete links to nonexisting pages, substitute various types of encoding, obey to special conventions about

the order (alphabeticaly by "wiki" code / by the expaned name of those languages),
the place (top / bottom inside the page source)
the format (one per line / separated with only one space)

of the interlanguage links. This is why a conflict locks the insertion of interlanguage links for the whole set of titles / the insertion in all languages involved.
Such conflicts are detected by many bots. If they are not fixed bots will download the involved pages over and over again causing unnecessary server load.

In a first step it was clear, that all articlis except ru:Абориген relate to eo:Aborigenoj de Aŭstralio. The eo: link has been corrected in all these articles except the russian.
With my minimal knowledge of Russian I was not 100% shure if ru:Абориген should link to eo:Aborigeno or not. This is why I have included {{interwikiconflict}} in these two titles.
In a next step I can contact friends from ru: and ask for help. I can let a note at eo:Talk:Aborigeno and ru:Talk:Абориген.
If a Bot runs over this sequence he will detect the conflict. Nevertheless now there is a indication, that this conflict is already known and some actions at the Wikipedias xx, yy etc. need to be made.

Both titles are linked to a subset of bg:Хазари, de:Chasaren, en:Khazars, fi:Kasaarit, fr:Khazars, he:ממלכת הכוזרים, it:Khazary, lt:Chazarai, pl:Chazarowie, ro:Chazari, tt:Xäzärlär etc. Solving this will require skills in many languages in order to compare the content of these titles.

All this articles correspond to ru:Хазары and only en:Khazars have data that corresponds both ru:Хазары and ru:Хазарский каганат, so I preferred to remove all interwiki links to ru:Хазарский каганат (Khazar state) and leave only links to ru:Хазары (Khazar people). GlobalWPSearch will "follow and find" the article(s) "trought" the redirect(s). To see this please make a redirect from lb:Paris to lb:Paräis and tray again GlobalWPSearch Paris.
For places many Wikipedias are using the "oficial" names. If there are common names redirects from the original names to the one used in the language of the Wikipedia are mad.

After informations within the Dutch community the common opinion is that both articles nl:Wodan and nl:Odin should remain because there is a subtle difference between the two Gods. Now (05:10, 2005 Apr 23 (UTC)) there should be no conflicts between interlanguage links for the pages linked "from" en:Wikipedia:Village pump. However there maigt be pages in other Wikipedias or in the Wikipedias linked to en:Wikipedia:Village pump which link also "to" this chain but not viceversa. The consistency of the links from such "to me unknow" pages could not be verified.
Some Wikipedias are placing the interlanguage links in templates. As soon as the template is used in another page then the ones already linked together conflicts will occur. This maight stop bots maintainig (expanding / adding new languages, updateing redirects because of changes in namespaces etc.) the list(s).

[edit] Other reasons causing conflicts

In one of the languages involved there are two aricles for the same "correct" title. They may differentiate because:

of only one character written upper / lower case
one of the titles having an addition
both titles written differently but relating to the same content
in the help or project namespace it may happen that a reference to another language is not referenced "inline" (with a ":" before the "language prfefix"); this way extra interlanguage links without any relation to that page will be generated;

[edit] Interlanguage coordination

This template should be available in as many languages as possible, one could use a redirect from a spelling (literation in another alphabets) to the "Template:Interwikiconflict form". So both zh:Template:Interwikiconflict and zh:Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Interwikiconflict should be available.
A "report" of the conflict should be available at the discussion page of one of the languages. At the start of this reports shold be an indications about

the "status" of the conflict: open / solved / fixed live
a timestamp
other informations: who has reported the conflict, who has solved it partialy, pending / waiting for "language code" etc.

In other involved Wikipedias there should be a link to that location.

Once a conflict is solved a bot should fix links in all involved languages (if none of the databases is locked). The status should change then to "fixed live".

At the moment GlobalWPSarch GlobalWPSearch Island does not indicate this. However GlobalWPSearch is continuously improuved and implementation of new features is just a mather of develpoment and server resources.

In these titles the interlanguage links should be "up to date" but will not include "isolated" titles. Lists of bots can be found following interlanguage links from en:Wikipedia:Bots and en:Category:Wikipedia bots.
